WASHINGTON UNIT HISTORY The Northwest Unit was chartered in September of 1958 and included Idaho, Oregon and Washington. By October1959 there were 101 dues-paying members. The unit started a Land Yacht Harbor fund in November 1960 and in December purchased 43.7 acres of land in Thurston County, near Lacey, Washington, which is now known as the Washington Land Yacht Harbor.
The Washington Unit is in Region 10, the largest geographical region in WBCCI. It also includes units in the states of Alaska, Oregon, Idaho and Montana and the Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Yukon Territory. A region rally is held every two years at a site selected by the Region President.
The Washington Land Yacht Harbor now consists of 61.3 acres with 194 lots and a 164 space Terraport with full hookups. There are 192 mobile home residential lots. Many of the unit's monthly rallies and special activities are held in our clubhouse, Harmony Hall, named after the first president of the Northwest Unit, Roy Harmony. The unit also conducts caravans throughout the State of Washington and to other points of interest. Additionally, members participate in caravans sponsored by WBCCI, conducted throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and overseas.
Annually since 1983, the Washington Unit has hosted a Special Events Rally in the Bavarian-theme town of Leavenworth, Washington. This rally is held in late September/early October during the town's Autumn Leaf Festival. The unit's largest activity is the National Potlatch and Salmon Rally held in August of each year. It is a weeklong event attended by approximately 400 members and guests. The unit has been hosting this National Rally since 1980.
